In the beginning...

Hello to all my friends and family!!!

So, I leave home in a week and the country shortly after that! I will soon be in the cold but beautiful and intriguing Scotland! I'm going to try to update regularly about my random adventures across the British isles and continent as well as my day to day life at university.

I guess I should explain where I'm going and why. I'll be spending the next 4 months in St. Andrews, Scotland studying economics at the University of St. Andrews and traveling as much as possible. Mostly I want to see things, economics, history, life, from a different point of view.

I'm staying in a dorm in a great location (I might have a view of the North Sea or Historic golf course!), and my roommate seems perfect too!

First things first, I'd like to ask for your help. If you have any suggestions about places (in the UK or Europe in general) I should see, please feel free to leave me a message!

  2. Places to go: Dublin, Edinburgh (Obviously, seeing as your nearby), and Amsterdam (GO TO AMSTERDAM, amazing city, with tons to see, do, and eat). Really anywhere in Europe is worthwhile. I also went to Paris, it was very very expensive but still cool I guess.

Things to do: A cheap way to find something to do during the day is the Sandeman's New Europe tour. The tour guides work on tips and they give you a 3ish hour guided walking tour. Very informative and entertaining and you decided how much you want to pay at the end (I normally gave them a 2 euro coin that I had sitting around in my pocket but you can give more or less depending). Here is there website, they are in most major cities neweuropetours.eu . Check it out they're really worthwhile.

  3. Oh Bets! How exciting. First Presby-ers are spread all over the world doing exciting things! I look forward to following your blog (I've already bookmarked this site!), not to be creepy. I spent about a week in Scotland and one of my absolute favorite places was, hands down, the botanical gardens in Edinburgh. You might have to wait a little while before the flowers are in bloom, but it is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen. Also, Iona Abbey is a beautiful, spiritual place. My choir sang there last year, and it was the most meaningful concert we did. Beautiful place. Anyway, have fun and enjoy every minute!
